About

Welcome to My Bright Black Heart.

This blog is the messy, beautiful unfolding of a woman in her 30s who walked away from a life that looked perfect on paper — a home, a ring, and a man who was kind, loving, and safe — because deep down, something didn’t feel right.

I called off my engagement, left behind the cat I adored, and stepped into a version of life I hadn’t planned for. At the same time, I lost my father — a grief that cracked open everything I thought I knew about love, family, and what truly matters.

Now I’m renting a new place farther from my comfort zone — emotionally and geographically — trying to rebuild not just a home, but myself. I’m stocking empty shelves, stretching a tight budget, and battling anxiety, depression, and the lingering ache of what I left behind.

This space is where I write through it all:

  • The grief and guilt
  • The small wins and new friendships
  • The questions about love, identity, and self-worth
  • The search for joy, peace, and purpose in a life I’m still building

My Bright Black Heart is about honoring the darkness without letting it define you. It’s about finding light in the middle of loss. If you’re navigating your own heartbreak, identity shift, or brave new beginning — I hope this space helps you feel less alone.

We’re all figuring it out. Here’s my version of trying.
